Tips for choosing the best winter boot for your child !

Tips for choosing the best winter boot for your child !

Winter will be arriving soon and with it the need of a pair winter boots. This may also be your child’s first real winter, and you’re wondering what to purchase ? You’re at the right place

In this article you will learn more about our different brands of winter boots for children, and you will have all the information to make the best possible choice.

• The type of construction

There are two main types of construction: neoprene and rubber, and removable felt liners. But what are their characteristics and what models do they refer to?

Neoprene and rubber

Boots made of neoprene and rubber are generally less imposing. For example, Bogs and Kuoma manufacture models with a rubber base, lined with modern, lightweight, thermo-insulating materials that keep the feet warm and dry.

Removable felt liners

The lining can cause great heat, boots made in this way usually allow better air circulation between it and the boot. The removable felt liner allows the slipper and boot to dry well after long days playing in the snow, which removes condensation. Acton, Kamik and Sorel are typical examples of brands that make these types of boots.

• Comfort Index

Some boots have heat ratings of -30 degrees to -45 degrees, which allows you to face the coldest winter days in the utmost comfort. This index is usually indicated in the description of the boots, do not hesitate to consult it to choose the most appropriate boots. Because wearing warm boots in winter is essential, it is not recommended to wear winter boots in warmer temperatures !

The Tony Pappas tip : Staying active and wearing good socks will help you feel more comfortable on colder days.

• Choose the right size

If you are lost and do not know what size you need, do not hesitate to consult our size guide !

The tips for choosing the right size of your child’s winter boot vary depending on the type of boot. Here are our tips :

1. For boots with removable liner (Acton, Kamik, Sorel)

For this type of boot, first remove the liner from the boot and give it a try to your child. Once the foot is in the liner and the heel in its place, there should be about 2cm of free space in front of the big toe. An adequate width of the felt should also allow you to pass a finger between the foot and the slipper. Once the right size is found, put the liner back in the boot and let your child run to see if it is comfortable !

2. For boots without removable liners (Olang, Kuoma and Bogs)

  • For boots with a removable insole, check the front of the large toe for a gap of about 2cm.
  • For boots with no removable insole, push the child’s foot towards the front of the boot to see the available space behind the foot. You should be able to insert a finger behind your child’s foot.
